Massive Action

Hey friend, welcome back to another episode of the podcast. 

How are you doing my friend? Can you believe it, it is August 1st. We are officially halfway through the year. My family and I are spending our final days back in the midwest for the summer before heading back to Charleston at the end of the month. Lots of things to be grateful for. Next month I’m hosting a challenge the entire month of September called Your Most Productive Month Yet Challenge and I am so excited for it and I want you to join me. We’re going to be spending the month resetting our habits to help expand our time, energy and focus to become the most productive version of ourselves. Today I want to talk to you about massive action. 

Massive action is about taking action until you get the result you want. It is a commitment to the outcome regardless of the circumstances around it. Counter that with passive action which may seem productive but doesn’t directly contribute to substantial progress. 

Massive action is associated with producing, executing. 

Passive action is associated with consumption. Reading endless articles, attending numerous webinars, or over-analyzing without implementation are typical examples of passive action. 

While learning is essential, massive action demands putting that knowledge into practice and daring to take bold steps despite uncertainty.

For example massive action is building a course until it is completed. 

Passive action could be consuming a podcast about building a course. 

You’ll know if you’re in passive action because you may experience resistance at the start of your project and feel immense accomplishment once you’re done. It is very clear that you have completed a project while in massive action. 

Passive action can be something that is taking place in the background.

Neither one is right or wrong, you just want to know which gear you need to shift into. Often times if we’re not careful passive action can feel like massive action if you’re not familiar with differentiating the two.

To make sure you operate in the massive action gear you can apply my Results Planning Method:

  1. Define the result you want to achieve

  2. List out all the steps it takes to produce that outcome. Get as specific as possible. 

  3. Put steps in chronological order.

  4. Time stamp them.

  5. Schedule them on your calendar in either 30 minute increments or large time blocks in the description.

Passive action can be a form of procrastination. Be mindful of this. For example, constantly being in planning mode or changing software tools to be more efficient could be a form of procrastination and passive action. It may feel productive but is it truly getting you to where you want to go?

Set limits or constraints on the amount of input. Yes, learning is important but you want to make sure you balance it with taking action. You may want to make a rule for yourself that you only listen to one coach at a time or a certain number of podcasts as that is it. In order to listen to other podcasts you need to remove one from your library.

Ask yourself throughout the day, “Am I in massive or passive action mode?” Simply bringing this awareness can help you recognize which mode you’re in so you can intentionally decide if that is the mode you need to be in.

The other thing is I don’t believe you would want to be in massive action mode all the time because it requires a certain amount of energy and if you are in massive action mode all the time you’re going to expend a lot of energy which could lead to burnout. 

Massive action is a tool that you can use when you need to produce results. Some seasons may require more massive action than passive. The important thing is to be able to differentiate the two.
